Our beloved Lone Star State is chock-full of amazing places to visit, and that includes plenty of campgrounds with stunning views! If you’re the proud owner of an RV, then it’s very likely that you’re itching for a place to go on vacation with it in tow. That could mean going on a hike, fishing in a lake, swimming or any number of other fun outdoor activities, all of which you’ll find somewhere in Texas.

Big Bend National Park (near Alpine, Texas)

Right on the Mexico-United States border along the Rio Grande is where you’ll find this huge park that spans over 800,000 acres. The views of mountains and canyons in this park will take your breath away, as will the thousands of different animals and insects you can see here.

Kayak or fish or swim in the Rio Grande, go mountain biking, take a nature walk or any number of other fun activities at this park. You can choose between three different campgrounds which are all suitable for camper trailers with water and restroom facilities.

Colorado Bend State Park (near Bend, Texas)

As one of the jewels of central Texas along the majestic Colorado River, this park will give you all the recreational opportunities you want with the bonus of amazing views that are Instagram-worthy. This park isn’t too far from Austin and features a year-round, 65-foot waterfall called Gorman Falls. Take the kids to swimming holes or ride your mountain bikes up trails or go on a cave tour with rappelling.

Drive-up and walk-in or hike-in sites are available for camping. There are no hook-ups for your camper trailer, but you’ll have access to water, picnic tables, fire rings and restroom facilities.

Davis Mountains State Park (near Fort Davis, Texas)

Here in West Texas, we’ve got the gorgeous Davis Mountains and their accompanying state park as the ideal camper trailer destination. If you’ve got a horse, trailer her up and bring her for some horse riding on the mountainous trails in this park. Outside of that, you can enjoy birdwatching, stargazing, hiking and mountain biking at this park.

Choose between six campsites that variously provide water, picnic areas, TV connections, grills and restrooms. The availability may vary during peak seasons, so you’ll want to check online and reserve your spot beforehand if you can.

Padre Island National Seashore (off the coast of Corpus Christi, Texas)

Located on North Padre Island in the Gulf of Mexico near the international border, you’ll find this carefully preserved, 70-mile stretch of coastline with peaceful beaches for swimming, wandering and building sandcastles with the kids. Enjoy a day in and around the warm gulf waters, watching baby sea turtles hatch, go fishing to catch the night’s meal or kayak under blue skies filled with pelicans.

Five campgrounds operate here throughout the year: Malaquite Campground, North Beach, South Beach, Yarborough Pass and Bird Island Basin Campground. No reservations are available, so you’ll need to get there early with your requisite camping permit. The park lacks RV hook-ups, so you’ll have to dry-camp with your vacation trailer, although there are dump and water stations for your use.
