With the weather finally getting warmer, many RV owners are getting ready for the first trip of the year. Spring is a great time to go on an RV camping trip because it is warmer than the winter, yet not as crowded as the summer. However, there are a few things you will need to prepare for if you want to enjoy your trip. That is why Ronnie Bock’s Kerrville RV has created this helpful guide.

What Are Common Spring RV Camping Problems?

Mosquitoes and Ticks

Bug spray and long-sleeved clothing can help prevent mosquito bites. Feel free to pack anti-itch cream if you feel that you might need it. You should also remember that mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, so take extra precautions when hiking near a pond or after it rains. Ticks like to hide in the undergrowth, so stay on the trail to avoid them. Remember, trying to burn or rip a tick off of someone can result in the head burying itself in, so use tweezers instead.

Rain

In most places, spring is the rainy season. Be sure to have appropriate clothing on hand, including a raincoat and rain boots. You should also bring extra clothing so that you can change into it if you get caught in unexpected weather.

Changing Trails

Between falling trees, erosion from snow, displaced trail markers, and other unplanned changes, winter can be hard on hiking trails. Check ahead to make sure you have the latest information on which trails are still active and which are not. While park rangers and staff work hard, they cannot be everywhere, so budget your time and supplies just in case you are forced to take a detour that adds an additional hour or two to your hike.

Pollen

While pollen allergies aren’t usually fatal, they can certainly put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable vacation. If you or one of your party members does have a pollen allergy, be sure to pack tissues, antihistamine medication, and whatever else you need in order to mitigate symptoms.

Cold Weather

While spring is generally warmer than winter, there may still be a few cold days, especially earlier in the year. Make sure that you pack some warmer clothes just in case the weather unexpectedly gets chilly.
